The art of the Ninja, the legendary shadow warriors of Japan, is the primary focus of the International Genbukan Ninpo Bugei organization headed by Grandmaster Shoto Tanemura of Matsubishi Japan. In the interests of maintaining the integrity of the ancient Ninja tradition, Grandmaster Tanemura founded the Genbukan in November of 1984. The Genbukan is dedicated to the factual portrayal and teaching of the Ninja arts in the traditional Japanese manner.

The curriculum in the Genbukan is centered on the teaching of the Ninpo Sanjurokkei (36 areas of training) that consists of 18 forms of traditional Japanese martial arts (Bugei Juhappan) in combination with the 18 forms of Ninpo (Ninja Juhakei).
Soke Shoto Tanemura

Grandmaster Tanemura majored in law and graduated from Hosei University. But instead of becoming a lawyer, he wanted a career that allowed him to be out on the streets using his Ninpo and Jujutsu knowledge to protect and help others.

At the age of twenty-two, he joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. From traffic cop to detective, his work as an officer enabled him to utilize and test all he had learned in the dojo. His skill was called upon on many occasions, and not once did it fail him. Observing his talent, his superiors allowed Tanemura Sensei to teach Ninpo and Jujutsu to policemen at a special martial arts club. Later, he officially became a professor at the police academy.

After fifteen years of service, he felt in his heart the need to preserve true martial arts in the whole world (not just Japan). So he resigned his job as a Lieutenant to carry out this mission. Soon after leaving the police department, he founded his Genbukan Ninpo Bugei Dojo and organized the Federation.

On November 28th, 1984, Grand Master Shoto Tanemura started with just a handful of students in his Matsubushi dojo. Now his, black belt instructors teach thousands of dedicated martial arts in over 15 countries as well as the Grand Master having personally taught seminars worldwide.

Soke is also the founder of the  Kokusai Jujutsu Renmei, as well as the Japan Kobudo / Koryu BujutsuWorld Federation, and the Amatsu Tatara World Federation.

Sensei Ron Plunkett

After more than 30 years in the martial arts, Sensei Ron has taken a circuitous route to where he is today. This long career started in 1976 with the study of Judo on the island of Guam. Later that year he took up Kenpo Karate under the world renowned Grandmaster, Mr. Ed Parker. Locally, Sensei Ron has also studied Kenpo with Mr. Gilbert Valez, the highest ranking black belt in Kenpo Karate after Mr. Parker's untimely death in 1993. Having joined the military when he was 17, Sensei has trained in various styles and locations since 1980 and has taught in martial arts schools in Arizona, California, Florida, North Carolina, and Texas, as well as in the country of Panama.

While in the military, Sensei taught special operations personnel in close combat fighting techniques.Sensei has had extended exposure to Japanese masters (8th degree and higher) both in Japan and the USA. He was granted the rare privilege of traveling to Japan to study and train with Grandmaster ShotoTanemura of the Genbukan Ninpo Bugei World Federation, one of only three legitimate Ninjutsu organizations in the world. This lineage goes back over two thousand years (58 generations) and Tanemura-Sensei is keeping the Shinobi (Ninja) linage as pure as possible while still adapting to modern times.

Sensei has completed his Master of Arts degree in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University, graduated with honors from Troy University with a degree in Resource Management, and has two associates' degrees: one in teaching and the other in telecommunications, both from the Community College of the Air Force. Sensei Ron has kept up a feverous pace for learning by having been certified in the Japanese healing art of Reiki and in the summer attends workshops for martial arts businesses hosted by the Martial Arts Industry Association.

Teaching has always been a recurring theme; after returning from Operation Just Cause in 1990, Sensei discovered skydiving and was one of the few people with the qualifications to teach both static-line and accelerated freefall. This led to him becoming the US Air Force's first Military Freefall Instructor (MFFI-275) assigned to the US Army's JFK Special Warfare Center and Schools (USAJFKSWCS) where he went through his first (USAJFKSWCS Instructor course) and second (US Parachute Association's Accelerated Freefall Instructor course) formal instructor courses. In 1996 he was hand selected to become an instructor at the Tactical Air Command & Control Technical School at Hurlburt Field, Florida, home to the US Air Force (USAF) Special Operations Command. After going through the USAF's six week in residence instructor course (his third formal instructor course) and many subsequent supporting courses (Technical Writing Principles, Instructional Systems Design, Objectives & Test, and Basic Counseling), Sensei was given the prestigious title of Master Instructor by the Air Education & Training Command of the US Air Force.

After retiring from the USAF in 2000, Sensei Ron came to Tucson working for Raytheon Missile Systems. After the attacks of 9/11, Sensei felt a need to help his country one more time and was selected to become one of the elite Federal Air Marshals. While in Colorado, he went through a formal instructor's course specifically designed for martial arts instructors and continues to expand his education and training with courses in martial arts and business.
